Montréal Fashion Week: Martin Lim Spring/Summer 2013
Martin Lim’s Spring/Summer 2013 presentation sent my heart aflutter with its gorgeous mix of flowing silks contrasted against pieces with a more tailored, sporty edge. The models floated down the runway in this effortlessly chic, feminine and modern collection. I had a smile on my face that grew wider and wider as each outfit was revealed!
Martin Lim excites me so much because it’s extremely wearable but is still infused with a high fashion sensibility. It’s an easy mix for most women to pull off. And I loved their choice of colors – the combination of bright blue, pink and apricot is so joyous, it makes me want to skip over winter and arrive back just in time for summer 2013.
The husband and wife duo, designers Danielle Martin and Pao Lim, whose fashion pedigree includes experience at Christian Lacroix and Roland Mouret, won Canada’s Mercedes-Benz Start Up award last year. With this Spring/Summer presentation, it’s clear they’re taking their line to the next level. Each of their collections continue to evolve with increasing design maturity and sophistication.
My favorites from their SS13 presentation: the blue maxi skirt with flower embellishment; the silk top with an oversized pink and tangerine flower; and all the incredible flowing silk gowns. With these gowns, the design duo have proven themselves as masters of draping. Under the runway lights, the draped silk looked as if it was flowing through water. The simple elegance of these pieces is sure to make them a hit among the fashion crowd next summer.
