PRIESTESS NYC Presents Drone-Inspired Collection at NYFW
Saturday night: New York fashion week, fall/winter 2013. There are parties and shows all over the city, and thanks to FASHIONOTES I headed to one of the hottest shows of the night — PRIESTESS NYC. Presented at the super stylish night spot, TOY, in NYC’s Meat Packing district, the venue provided a sultry backdrop to the collection, which designer Cody Ross said was inspired by CIA drone operations, pop science, girls in combat and outsider art.
The crowd was a mix of well-heeled hipsters and unrestrained punk kids, which is a good reflection of the demographics that PRIESTESS NYC most appeals to. The collection an avant-garde mix of predominately black designs with a few flashes of white, neon camouflage and metallic shades. Overall, the designs reflect drone-esque shapes, colors and contours, and are created with a textured mix of knit chenille, linen twill, lambskin and mesh.
My favorite piece was the black and white ensemble (very on trend!), which featured monochrome leggings detailed with black mesh inserts.
It’s easy to see why PRIESTESS NYC has been worn by celebrities like Lady Gaga, Rooney Mara and even Katy Perry. Ross’ artistic vision shines through in the collection, and although some pieces are perhaps too risqué for some people, the dark, androgynous beauty of the collection is impossible to deny.
PRIESTESS NYC has a store in NYC’s Meat Packing district, and also in Shanghai, China. You can see more of Cody Ross’ work in editorials around the world; he’s a contributor to Bullett magazine, Vogue China, and a fashion editor at i-D.
