Turning the Runway Format on its Head

Turning the Runway Format on its Head

Last week saw the debut of an exciting, new fashion event in Montreal called Fashion Preview. The event showcased the work of a small group of avant-garde designers, and allowed attendees to experience the clothes in an entirely new way.

One of my favourites, Pedram Karimi, turned the traditional idea of a runway show on its head by having his models actually dress onstage. The clothes were arranged on a rack and the three models took turns at changing into different pieces and swapping items of clothing between themselves, highlighting the unisex nature of the designs. Throughout the presentation, Pedram himself moved around the stage, instructing the models as they transitioned between outfits in front of the audience.

All-in-all it was a fun and engaging way to see a collection. Those in attendance could see how the clothes moved, how they were constructed and how easily they can be mixed and matched to create a multitude of looks for both men and women.
